Sustainable and Green Energy

Sustainable and green energy is energy that we can use to meet our needs without depleting the natural energy resources that are available. Sustainable energy is renewable energy.

Our consumer societies demand electricity for lighting, heating, cooking and running the televisions, computers, games etc. We need to meet this need using clean, sustainable energy sources.

Sustainable and green energy resources include: biofuels, solar power, photovoltaics, wind energy, wave energy, water power, tidal energy and geothermal power.

Photovoltaics is a different type of renewable energy resource because electricity is generated directly from solar energy. Most sustainable energy resources convert the energy they contain into electricity.

Dams and reservoirs supply water to the population as well as being a source of hydro electricity.

Nuclear power is a form of renewable energy and, of course, this continues to be a controversial issue with many people!

A global energy economy

To build a global economy based on sustainable and green energy requires all the nations of Earth to work together to stop using fossil fuels and to switch to renewable energy resources. This is a political objective which will require all governments to co-operate!
